7 Tips for Gardening for Beginners

Gardening is a fantastic hobby. Gardening not only gives you fresh organic vegetables and fruits, but it also refreshes your mood. As Jenny Uglow says” we might think we are nurturing our garden but of course it’s the garden that nurturing us”. Starting gardening can be a dream of many and here we are sharing some gardening tips for beginners. Any beginner sticking to these simple gardening tips can have a beautiful garden at home or on a balcony. Doing more gardening will teach you more about gardening.

1. Type of Garden

Know the type of garden you are looking for. Either you want a garden for growing veggies, fruits, herbs or you want to see your garden bloom with colorful flowers. Knowing how you want to look in your garden will help you in selecting the plants. Choose wisely Work slow but steadily. We suggest you start with easy plants like veggies. Vegetable gardening doesn’t need a full season effort to see the fruit and can also compensate for your initial experiments. For flower gardening, sunflower is an easy choice to go. Early success in gardening is also inspiring to make to struggling.

2. Select Right Location

For starting home gardening choose the right location. The location of the garden should be insight and visible to you easily. As it is quote that out of sight becomes out of mind applies in gardening too. Vegetables, fruits, and herbs need 6–8 hours of sunlight daily for their growth. So, as per your plants choose a sunny area, and for shade-loving plants choose the shady area.

Label everything in your garden. In the start, some plants may confuse you so it’s better to label the plants to recognize them. You can also hang baskets for flowers. A hanging basket will enhance the space and beauty of your garden.

3. Know Your Soil

Knowing the type of your soil is a basic gardening tip. It will help you to select the plants. Different plants grow in different types of soil. You can always get a soil examination test which will reveal the type of soil and will also tell you its nutrient quality.

4. Feed Your garden with Compost

Providing good fertilizer will prepare your soil for the plantation. Compost and microbes are the best options for your soil. Add compost in the top 13 inches of your soil. No matter the type of soil, compost will always provide more nutrients and life to your soil.

You can also prepare compost for your kitchen disposal by digging it into the soil and covering it with dried leaves. All types of food remaining, fruit vegetable skins, bones, and used tea serve as best compost for the soil. You can also buy nutrient full soil from the nearby gardening shop.

5. Select the Plant Wisely

Always choose the plants by considering the temperature and weather condition of your location. You can also make a little survey in your surroundings to know what type of plants are growing in your location in which weather.

New plants don’t grow in extreme weather conditions. As starting gardening, it’s the best tip to take some young plants and grow them rather than choosing seeds. Mixing different types of plants will help them to grow and fight other’ plant weeds.

6. Watering the Plant

One of the best gardening tips is to make sure you have a water hose near your garden. So you may water your garden with a pipe. But too much or too little water can make them die. The best way to see that your plant needs water is by digging your finger 1 inch into the soil. If it’s dry then it’s time to water.

For the summer season, the best time to water the plant is 10 am and 4 pm. In winter, plants need water in the gap of 2, 3 days.

7. Gardening Tools

Keep your gardening tools handy. So any time you see a weed or a branch needed to be tied, you can fix it. Having big scissors will help you in cutting weeds and dead plants. Water tools are will water your plants to grow bitterly. A water hose with a watering can do the job perfectly. Digging tools dig the soil and prepare it for plantation. Adding compost in soil requires digging too. Spade, gardening fork and a trowel are some must-haves for gardening. For cutting the weeds you must have a gardening knife and fork towel. Above all gardening tips, a pair of protective gloves will save your hand from getting any injury.

8. Get Rid of Weeds

The plantation is the just start of your gardening. Weeds are the unwanted plants growing in the flower beds of your garden. As they grow near your or on your plants so they take the nutrients of your plants. Checking your garden periodically and cutting the weeds will help your plant to grow more effectively.

Gardening needs consistency. Your negligence for even a few days may dry the plants or make weeds stronger. So by putting minimum but continuous effort you can grow your garden. It takes months to taste the effort of your struggles. So, keep enjoying your work to taste the fruit of it.
